INITIAL RESEARCH FOR A NEW FILM MAGAZINE

The magazine is called Film Review Issue 605 May 2001 £2.90.

What does the cover look like?
The cover is eye-catching as the red pops out against the white background which catches the readers eye. On the magazine different font sizes are used to highlight the more important parts of the magazine that the editor wants readers to look at first. The bold fonts are used to capture reader's attention. The cover layout is not too busy with writing. This makes it much easier to quickly read.

What is featured on the cover page?
The cover is on a white background with all the red and pink head titles and little headings. Renee Zellweger is on the front cover sitting down on the floor looking up into the camera holding her red diary, which is linked to Bridget Jone's Diary, a film that she is the main focus in. Furthermore having Zellweger featured on the cover page lets readers know instantly that she is in the talked about popular movie, Bridget Jones's Diary.

Does it have a center page spread?
The centre page spread is in the middle of the magazine. the spread goes across from page 64 to 65. A black and white image of the movie Beatlemania. The big font across the image is eye catching as it is against a black and white background so the colour yellow is eye catching and draws the attention of whoever is reading the magazine.

Does it have an interview?
The magazine is filled with many interviews. Kiera Knightley stars in Star Wars at the age of 12. She is then asked if she enjoyed being a part of this film playing Queen Amidala's decoy. Knightley responded, "i loved the first Star Wars film and my mum was really into it too, that is why i took part. But the Force wasn't there when we were filming it. Interviews is a way of getting a bigger insight into the actress/actor who has been in a film and to also gain a larger fan base from sharing information to the public.

Contests for readers?
In the magazine there is a contest for readers. Readers can win a sony dvd player. All readers must do is answer a question. Who wrote the classic sci-fi tale the Invisible Man? The answers are submitted to an address or a call can be made instead of emails.  Including competitions for readers makes the readers feel like they are participating or involved in the magazine itself.

Film reviews?
Film reviews give latest reviews on films that are coming out. Readers can read the reviews and then be able to decide on if it is worth spending their money to go and see the film or buy a dvd of it.  The readers can find out the screenwriter's perspective of the the film. The reviews are made on concept, marketability, characters, structure and the general concept of the film.

The whole magazine is called Film Reviews and is filled with reviews on different films that have recently came out.
Using secondary research saves money and so when making a film magazine you can know what content to put in it so that you are different from the rest and stand out.
